What to do when someone passes away.
When someone passes, the emotions can feel overwhelming. At the same time there are practical and legal decisions that need to be made. Contact us for advice or assistance, and we can answer any questions about what needs to be done.
Our staff are available 24 hours, 7 days a week, for advice and to clearly explain your options. We can also provide an estimate of the costs.
We can organise all necessary paperwork for the person to be transferred into our care. We can also arrange to meet and discuss arranging the funeral service.
Family may wish to spend some time with the person, let our staff know, we will arrange for the transfer to take place at a time that suites you. If you are planning a cremation, you should advise the doctor, hospital or nursing home staff, as extra paperwork is required.
What you need to do depends on where the person has passed away.
Home.
When a person passes away at home the doctor who has been seeing the person should be contacted. If the doctor is satisfied to the cause of death, they will issue a Medical Death Certificate. Once the doctor has issued a Death Certificate we are able to transfer the person into our care.
Nursing Home.
If a person passes away at a Nursing Home, the staff will arrange the necessary paperwork. You can contact us directly or Nursing Home staff will contact us to arrange to transfer the person into our care.
Hospital.
If a person passes away in a Hospital, the staff will arrange the necessary paperwork. Hospitals are able to hold someone after passing away. We will contact the hospital for the person to be transferred into our care.
Unexpected Death.
If a death is sudden or accidental and a doctor is unable to issue a Medical Death Certificate, then the police should be contacted and the Coroner may become involved. The police will organise for the person to be transferred to the NSW Coroner.
A counsellor will assist you with dealings with the Coroner’s office and keep you informed of procedures and your options. You should contact us as soon as possible so we can liaise with the Coroner’s office and begin making the funeral arrangements.
Interstate or Overseas.
If a death occurs when a person is interstate or overseas, contact us as soon as possible so we can arrange to transfer the person back home. We will take care of all the legal and statutory requirements.
Some people would like to return home for their funeral. Contact us to discuss options and costs. We are able to make arrangements for transfers through-out Australia or anywhere in the World.
